Terms of Service

Last updated October 3, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Cairn, which is run by Cairn Reports LLC, 14656 Hunters Trl, Holland, MI 49424 ("Cairn", "we", "us"). By creating an account, running the free preview or buying a plan, you agree to them on behalf of the business you use Cairn for.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.

What Cairn is

  • Cairn is a research tool for business use. It collects what people say about a product in public, and what your team shares with it, and writes reports, chat answers and interview findings from them.
  • That writing is done by AI. It can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check the cited evidence before you rely on a finding.
  • Evidence links lead to third-party sites, such as Reddit, that we do not control and are not responsible for.
  • Cairn is not legal, financial, safety or other professional advice. The decisions you make with it are yours.

Accounts and the free preview

  • You sign in with a link we email you. Keep that inbox secure: you are responsible for what happens in your account.
  • The free preview is one report on one product, once per company. We recognise a company by its web domain, or by the whole address for a personal email provider. We may refuse or limit a preview, for example when the company has already had one.

Plans and billing

  • Prices are in US dollars, as shown on the billing page when you buy, or as we agree with you for a plan we set up with you. Plans are monthly or annual, and Stripe bills them in advance.
  • A plan renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it.
  • Upgrades take effect immediately, and the difference for the rest of the period is charged at once, prorated.
  • Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Until then the plan keeps working.
  • If a payment fails, Stripe retries it. If the last retry fails, the plan ends: what you built stays readable, but new reports, refreshes, chat and interviews stop until you choose a plan again.
  • Each plan includes the product and monthly interview limits shown on the billing page, and the fair-use caps below.

Fair-use caps

To keep Cairn reliable for everyone, each workspace also has caps on the work it starts by hand. Scheduled monthly reports and weekly collection do not count towards them. Today they are (a month is a calendar month in UTC):

  • Reports you start (a first report, or a new report you generate): the greater of 10 or 3 per product in your plan's limit, each calendar month. That is 10 on Single Product, 15 on 5 Products and 45 on Company.
  • Refreshes: once an hour per product, and in any 24 hours at most the greater of 10 or 3 per product in your plan's limit, plus one for each product you track.
  • Chat: 150 messages per workspace in any 24 hours, and up to 3 answers being written at once.
  • Team interviews started: up to twice your monthly interview allowance plus 2 in a calendar month, and 20 in any hour.

We may also pause new work for a while if a service-wide safety limit is reached. We may adjust these caps to keep the service reliable, and this page shows the current ones.

Refunds

Payments are non-refundable, including for partial months and unused time. You can cancel at any time: cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and you keep access until then. Within 14 days of a charge we may, at our discretion, refund it as a goodwill gesture; email us to ask.

Acceptable use

  • Send interview links only to your own team, and only to people who know what the interview is for.
  • Never use an interview, or anything else in Cairn, to collect passwords or other credentials, contact details, or payment data.
  • Do not use Cairn unlawfully, impersonate anyone, resell or share access outside your business, get around its caps or the one-preview rule, or probe, overload or attack the service.

Your content

  • You own your content: what you put into your workspace and what Cairn produces for you from it.
  • You give us permission to host, copy and process it only as needed to run Cairn for you.
  • We do not use your content to train AI models.
  • Public posts and web pages collected as evidence remain the property of their authors and owners.

Suspension, export and deletion

  • We may suspend or freeze a workspace for non-payment, a breach of these Terms, or to protect Cairn or other customers.
  • You can stop at any time by cancelling your plan.
  • On request, we will export your workspace's content or delete it. The Privacy Policy says what is kept, and for how long.

Disclaimers and liability

Cairn is provided as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we give no warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue or data.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim about Cairn is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Governing law, changes and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Michigan.

When we change these Terms, we update the date at the top. If a change is material, we email account owners before it takes effect.
